Synopsis

The second collection turns to the east and west of the Meekhan Empire and no longer returns to the northern guards or the southern warrior of the first volume. In the East, a mercenary-style combat unit, a czardan commanded by General Laskolnyk, rides across the wide steppes, and one of its members, Janne, draws particular attention. In the West, a young thief named Altsin slips through the streets of the coastal city of Ponkee-Laa. The stories deal with the peoples, beliefs, customs and wars of the Empire and its neighbours, with honour, courage, loyalty and love as recurring themes, and include several shorter pieces set between the main threads.
