Overview

A standalone crossover-appeal fantasy by V.E. Schwab in which Olivia Prior, a mute young woman raised at a strict boarding school, inherits her family's decaying estate, Gallant, after the school can no longer keep her. There she discovers the grounds border a shadowy mirror world just beyond the garden wall, and begins to uncover the truth about her parents' disappearance and the reason Gallant's inhabitants have always warned her to stay on her own side of the wall. Published in 2022, the novel was noted on release for its atmospheric, gothic tone and its blending of young-adult and adult fantasy sensibilities, distinct from Schwab's more overtly commercial series work.
