Overview
Meggie's father Mo, a bookbinder with the rare ability to read characters out of books and into the world, is hunted by a villain he once accidentally read out of a novel called Inkheart, the first of a trilogy that follows Meggie deeper into the world of Inkheart itself. Cornelia Funke's original trilogy, Inkheart (2003), Inkspell (2005), and Inkdeath (2007), won wide acclaim, with Kirkus calling it "a true feast for anyone who has ever been lost in a book" and Inkspell winning the 2006 BookSense Book of the Year Award for Children's Literature; a fourth book extending the story, announced in 2016, was published in 2023. New Line Cinema adapted the first novel as a 2008 film directed by Iain Softley and starring Brendan Fraser and Helen Mirren, followed by a Nintendo DS video game the following year.
