Overview
Only Begotten Daughter is a standalone satirical fantasy novel by the American writer James Morrow, published in 1990 by William Morrow and Company. Julie Katz is the daughter of God, conceived through what the novel calls inverse parthenogenesis from a sperm bank donation made by her father, Murray Katz, a Jewish hermit living in Atlantic City. As a modern messiah she must cope with her powers, with Satan's manipulations, with fundamentalists who hunt her, and with her mother's silence. It is a counter-theodicy about why people suffer and how they respond.
