Overview
A two-book fantasy duology drawing on Chinese mythology, following Xingyin, the daughter of the exiled moon goddess Chang'e, as she seeks to free her mother and finds herself navigating the politics, magic, and dangers of the Celestial Kingdom's court after her existence is discovered and she is forced to flee their hidden home on the moon. In Daughter of the Moon Goddess (2022), Xingyin conceals her identity to serve in the Celestial Emperor's palace while training in archery and magic and drawing the attention of the Celestial Prince; Heart of the Sun Warrior (2023) continues her story as old loyalties and new dangers force her to choose between the family she is fighting to save and the kingdom that has become her home. Sue Lynn Tan's debut duology draws on classical Chinese legends of the moon goddess and the archer Houyi, reworking them into an original coming-of-age story of duty, sacrifice, and forbidden love.
