Overview
Jean-Laurent Del Socorro is a French writer of historical fantasy. His novel Royaume de vent et de colères (ActuSF, 2015) is set in Marseille during the French Wars of Religion, when the Catholic city defies the former Protestant king Henri IV. Its cast gathers at the tavern La Roue de Fortune: a retired knight, an old woman who leads the assassins' guild, two magicians on the run and the former mercenary who owns the place. Du roi je serai l'assassin (ActuSF, 2021) follows Silas, a minor character from the first book, from Granada through Montpellier to Marseille, and takes up a magical stone from the earlier novel. A short graphic novel and short stories share the setting. The two novels were reissued in an omnibus in 2024. No further novel in this world is announced.
