Overview
Freydis, an oracle whose visions are usually wrong, is bound by an oath to protect a warlord's son she can only ever see get killed in her visions of the future, in a fantasy of shieldmaidens, jarls, and Norse-inspired gods and monsters. Danielle L. Jensen's A Fate Inked in Blood (2024) opens the duology by binding Freydis's fate to Bjorn Wolf-Heart, heir to a warlord's throne, through an oath she cannot break even as every vision she has of their future together ends in his death, forcing her to search for a way to defy what she keeps seeing. The sequel, A Curse Carved in Bone (2025), continues the pair's story as war among rival jarls escalates and Freydis's own fractured, unreliable gift becomes increasingly central to the wider conflict rather than a private curse. The series was among the more commercially prominent Norse-inspired romantic fantasies published in the mid-2020s.
