Overview
Stephen R. Lawhead's Song of Albion follows Lewis Gillies, an American graduate student studying in Oxford who is pulled through into Albion, an otherworld version of Celtic Britain, where he becomes entangled in a struggle rooted in the myth of the Song of Albion, an ancient prophecy tied to the land's kingship and its guardian, the mysterious Phantarch. Across The Paradise War (1991), The Silver Hand (1992), and The Endless Knot (1993), Lewis is transformed by his time in Albion, taking on the identity of Llew Silver Hand as he is drawn deeper into its politics, its bardic tradition, and a conflict that eventually threatens Albion's connection to the real world he left behind. Lawhead, previously known for Arthurian and Celtic-inflected fantasy elsewhere in his bibliography, builds the trilogy around Celtic mythology and the bardic tradition specifically, treating storytelling and song as themselves a form of power within Albion. The complete trilogy has stayed continuously in print for over two decades.
