Overview

The Adept is a series of five contemporary occult fantasy novels by Katherine Kurtz and Deborah Turner Harris, published between 1991 and 1996. The hero is Sir Adam Sinclair, a Scottish nobleman, physician and scholar who is also an Adept, a practitioner of ancient arts, who has lived many lives and works to protect the Light from those who walk the Dark Roads. With his circle of friends, including the painter Peregrine Lovat and the police officer Noel McLeod, he opposes black magicians, cults and dark adepts in modern Scotland, mainly around Edinburgh. The books are linked by recurring characters and enemies and are best read in order. The series ended in 1996 and nothing further has been announced.
