Overview
Guy Gavriel Kay's Fionavar continuity, catalogued as one universe. The Fionavar Tapestry (1984-1986), Kay's debut, is one of the genre's foundational portal-fantasy trilogies: five University of Toronto students are drawn by the mage Loren Silvercloak into Fionavar, 'the first of worlds', and into a conflict woven from Arthurian, Celtic and Norse myth. Ysabel (2007), Kay's first contemporary fantasy, follows a Canadian teenager in Provence caught up in the return of an ancient supernatural rivalry; two of the trilogy's survivors, Kim Ford and Dave Martyniuk, return in it and the events of Fionavar are part of its story.
