Overview
The Jumbies follows Corinne La Mer, a girl in an unnamed Caribbean island community, who crosses paths with jumbies -- shape-shifting spirits drawn from Trinidadian and wider Caribbean folklore -- after venturing into the forbidden forest on Halloween night. Across three novels (2015-2020), Corinne confronts a jumbie sorceress, a rising jumbie uprising, and finally the jumbie god behind it all, in a trilogy the author has described as a deliberate Caribbean answer to the European fairy-tale tradition.
