Overview
The Redemption of Althalus (2000) is a standalone fantasy novel by David and Leigh Eddings, published by Del Rey in the United States and Voyager in the United Kingdom. It follows Althalus, a self-interested thief hired to steal a mysterious book from a remote dwelling known as the House at the End of the World, only to discover he has been recruited by the goddess who lives there for a much larger purpose: preventing her exiled brother and his agents from unleashing ruin on the world. Over what becomes a span of millennia inside the House, Althalus gathers a small band of allies bound to the book's magic and gradually grows from a self-serving opportunist into someone willing to fight for something larger than himself. Written in the light, dialogue-driven, comic-adventure register familiar from the authors' earlier Belgariad and Malloreon series, it was their final major work published together before David Eddings's death in 2009.
