Synopsis

Fess, a necromancer and keeper of the Diamond and Wooden Swords, reaches Narn, the forest of the dark elves, after a hard journey. The forest folk refuse him shelter, because they foresee that he is destined to become an Apostle of Darkness and bring Evial down. To test this prophecy, Fess accepts a trial and sets out again, pursued by the Holy Inquisition. His memory returns only slowly, and his Necromancer's Word, already broken three times, complicates every choice he makes. He keeps hoping for a miracle while the hunters close in on him.
