Synopsis
In this second entry in the main Nightside sequence, private investigator John Taylor, whose supernatural gift lets him locate almost anything, is hired to find the Unholy Grail somewhere within the Nightside, the hidden and perpetually dark supernatural quarter of London that never sees the light of day. As word spreads that Taylor has taken the case, he becomes the target of numerous rival factions and dangerous individuals, each hoping either to recruit him or to eliminate him so they can seize the relic and the power it promises for themselves. Taylor must navigate old rivalries, uneasy alliances, and the Nightside's own peculiar politics as he tries to complete the job before the forces circling him close in.
Where it sits
- Universe: The Nightside / Secret Histories
- Series: The Nightside main sequence core; position 2 of 12 in the series' recorded order
- Author: Simon R. Green
Notes
- From the series record (The Nightside main sequence): No further main-sequence novel has been found published since The Bride Wore Black Leather (2012); a short-story collection, Tales from the Nightside (2015), exists in the same setting but is not catalogued in this admission. No confirmed major-award nomination was found for this series after a genuine search; this is an honest "none found," not an unresolved lead.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series The Nightside main sequence: position 2 of 12: previous Something from the Nightside (2003) · next Nightingale's Lament (2004)
- Internal chronology, within The Nightside / Secret Histories: position 3 of 24: previous The Man With the Golden Torc (2007) · next Daemons Are Forever (2008)
