Synopsis
In the fifth Secret Histories novel, Eddie Drood is assigned to protect a visiting foreign dignitary whose safety becomes entangled with deeper schemes involving rival supernatural factions and threats to the fragile order the Droods maintain. As the assignment unravels into something far more dangerous than a simple protection detail, Eddie must call on family resources and hard-earned alliances from London's hidden supernatural circles to keep the situation from spiraling into open conflict. The novel continues to widen the scope of the Droods' secret war, drawing in outside powers with their own agendas and forcing Eddie to weigh political consequences alongside the immediate physical dangers he and his charge face.
