Synopsis

The third volume opens the saga's second generation: the children of Catelyn and the Viking Thorst, protagonists of the first two books, now carry the story. In the heart of the Dark Forest, Aesa, queen of the Vandal people and mistress of the Dark Art, plots to seize the seven magic stones of the sorceress Aranwen, the amulet whose powers have passed down through the family. Edwina, the eldest daughter, responsible and mature, agrees to become Guardian of the Sun's Tear and awaits the call of the Stone of Time. On the other side of the world her cousin Edwin is trained by Sigarr, Aesa's brother, in the mysteries of the Dark Art, to fulfil the prophecy that the son of the Moon King and the Sun Queen will have the power to fuse the Dark and the Luminous Arts and reach absolute knowledge. Raised for opposite paths, the two cousins are drawn together by forces greater than either.

Notes

  • From the series record (A Saga das Pedras Mágicas): Sandra Carvalho's eight-volume Portuguese epic fantasy (Editorial Presença, Via Láctea, 2005-2013): three generations of a Northern family, from the sorceress Catelyn and the Wolf Warrior Throst to their daughters and granddaughter, bound to the seven magic stones in which the sorceress Aranwen imprisoned her power and to the Stone of Time that guards her pact of love and blood.
