Synopsis

The second book chronicling the epic fantasy adventures of the naturalist Tristram Flattery as he voyages to discover the lost history of magic in a world where reason and science reign. The secrets of the Mages had been lost with the passing of Erasmus Flattery, a man of Talent who had served the last known Mage, and it seemed to be the dawn of a new era, a time of reason, science and exploration, in which Tristram, Erasmus's nephew, was one of its most promising young naturalists. Now Tristram has reached his destination, the island of Varua, where the expedition is to gather kingfoil to take back to the king; but different people on the expedition have different goals, as do the islanders, and even the mysterious Lady Chilton, not seen in decades, is back in the game. The conclusion of Moontide and Magic Rise.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
