Overview

Sean Russell's Moontide and Magic Rise is a sea adventure set in a world with a more or less eighteenth-century background, where magic used to exist and mages are dying out. The promising young naturalist Tristram Flattery, sent on a voyage halfway around the world, is led by the spirit familiar of his late mage uncle to a remote island where it has been foretold that he will open the gateway to a magical world. The prequel duology The River into Darkness, Beneath the Vaulted Hills and The Compass of the Soul, is set in the same world.
