Synopsis
Nigel Considine is a man who has made himself resistant to age and decay through a strict physical and psychic discipline. He has a hypnotic hold over others and plans to reshape the world, beginning with Africa, where he is stirring up resistance to European rule. In London a group of friends is drawn together when they help rescue Inkamasi, a Zulu king who has come under Considine's influence. They include a knighted medical researcher, a priest, and a poet named Roger and his wife Isabel. Once Considine's aims become clear, the group is divided over how to respond. Written first of Williams's novels, it was published fifth.
