Synopsis
Shadows Return is the fourth Nightrunner novel, set some years after Traitor's Moon. Seregil and Alec, now longtime partners in espionage for the Skalan crown, are captured by slave traders and sold to a Plenimaran alchemist who intends to exploit Alec's unusual mixed heritage as part of an experiment to create an unnatural, artificial being. The two must find a way to escape captivity, and in doing so end up responsible for the strange creature born of the alchemist's work, even as the ordeal forces Seregil to confront traumatic experiences from his own past that resurface under the pressure of their captivity.
