Synopsis

Under the rule of a usurper king, the realm of Skala has suffered famine, plague and invasion, but the time for the rightful heir has come and the Lightbearer's prophecy is to be upheld at last. A mystical fire has burned away the male body known as Prince Tobin, revealing Princess Tamír, a girl on the verge of womanhood and a queen ready to claim her birthright after a life in disguise under the protection of wizards and witches. But will her people, her army and the friends she was forced to deceive accept her? Her cousin Korin, the dead king's son and Tobin's closest friend, holds the crown's rival claim, and the wizard Niryn holds Korin, and the trilogy ends in a civil war for Skala and in Tamír's coming to terms with the woman she now is.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Tamír Triad): Lynn Flewelling's prequel trilogy, set in Skala some six centuries before the Nightrunner novels: the usurper king Erius kills every girl of the royal line, so the wizards of Illior and a hill witch hide the true heir, Tamír, in the magically borrowed shape of her dead twin brother, raised as Prince Tobin until she can claim the throne.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series The Tamír Triad: position 3 of 3: previous Hidden Warrior (2003)
  • Internal chronology, within Nightrunner / The Tamír Triad: position 6 of 10: previous Traitor's Moon (1999) · next Shadows Return (2008)
