Synopsis
A slaver raid led by the ruthless Harib Ka and the swordsman Collan devastates the young Druss's home village, killing or enslaving nearly everyone there, including his wife Rowena. Druss sets out alone to rescue her, eventually discovering that she possesses unexpected mystical abilities and has been taken to a distant, hostile land far from anything he knows. Joined along the way by allies such as the seasoned hunter Shadak and the charming poet Sieben, Druss pursues the slavers across foreign territory, gradually becoming entangled in a wider military conflict in the kingdom of Ventria that tests both his growing legend and his singular devotion to Rowena.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
