Synopsis
Dakeyras is a reclusive woodsman living quietly in the mountains with his young daughter Miriel, hiding a secret past: he was once Waylander the Slayer, a master assassin feared across the realm for his lethal skill and his role in a king's murder. When the Guild of Assassins places a fresh contract on his life to settle old scores, he is drawn back into a world of violence he thought he had left behind, forced to confront old enemies, the sinister Dark Templars, and the desperate needs of a Nadir tribe facing annihilation, all while trying to keep his daughter safe from the consequences of who he used to be.

Notes
- From the series record (The Drenai Saga): Publication order differs sharply from internal chronology (recorded per book in internal chronology).
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series The Drenai Saga: position 5 of 11: previous Quest for Lost Heroes (1990) · next The First Chronicles of Druss the Legend (1993)
- Internal chronology, within The Drenai Saga: position 2 of 11: previous Waylander (1986) · next Hero in the Shadows (2000)
