Synopsis

The Limbreth Gate, published by Robin Hobb under the name Megan Lindholm in 1984, is the third novel of the Windsingers series. A faction of the Windsingers, still resentful over the events of the previous book, tricks Ki into passing through the Limbreth Gate into a strange, dreamlike realm where its inhabitants drift into permanent, peaceful sleep while a being known as the Limbreth slowly consumes what makes them human. Vandien sets out after her, but finds that pulling Ki back is harder than simply reaching her: trapped in the Limbreth's world, she has begun to lose interest in her own survival, unconvinced that the life waiting for her outside is worth returning to. Vandien is forced to seek unlikely allies, including a fellow traveler named Brijar and, again, the Windsinger Rebeke, in his effort to reach Ki before the realm's dreaming claims her for good.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Windsingers): Also known as the Ki and Vandien Quartet, published under the author's Megan Lindholm pen name; her 4th universe in this canon, alongside Realm of the Elderlings, the Soldier Son Trilogy (both as Robin Hobb), and Wizard of the Pigeons (also as Megan Lindholm). Confirmed genuinely separate from all three: no shared characters, setting, or continuity.
