Overview

Also known as the Ki and Vandien Quartet, published under the author's Megan Lindholm pen name. A complete four-book fantasy quartet following the carter Ki and her partner Vandien across a dangerous, magic-touched frontier world, across Harpy's Flight (1983), The Windsingers (1984), The Limbreth Gate (1984), and Luck of the Wheels (1989). Written years before the author became widely known as Robin Hobb, the quartet follows Ki and Vandien as working traders rather than chosen heroes, hauling cargo through territory patrolled by the titular Windsingers and other hostile magical forces, with the couple's partnership tested as much by ordinary economic survival as by supernatural danger. The series is often read by later Hobb readers as an early demonstration of the grounded, hardship-focused character work that would come to define her much better-known Farseer and Liveship sequences.
