Synopsis
The River of Shadows, published by Robert V. S. Redick in 2010, is the third novel of the Chathrand Voyage. With the sorcerer Arunis still loose and determined to unleash a catastrophic force called the Swarm of Night using the cursed Nilstone, Pazel, Thasha, and the rest of the Chathrand's company race against time to stop him before he succeeds. Their pursuit carries them out of the ordinary world and into a stranger dimension, a warped realm containing a literal River of Shadows and an Infernal Forest, where the travelers experience distorted, nightmarish versions of reality and troubling glimpses of paths their lives might have taken. Separated from the ship and facing dangers unlike anything encountered in the earlier volumes, the characters must find their way back while still racing to prevent Arunis from claiming the power he seeks.
