Synopsis
In the wake of the devastating battles that closed the earlier books, an uneasy peace has settled over the continent of Ulldart, though it soon proves illusory. Lodrik withdraws increasingly from public life, leaving room for his first wife, Aljascha, to scheme for control of one of the powerful aldoreelian blades in hopes of seizing power over Tarpol for herself. At the same time, a figure long believed dead resurfaces mysteriously in the distant north, unsettling the fragile calm that had followed years of war. As these threats emerge, former companions who fought together in earlier conflicts must find a way to reunite and act before the deceptive peace collapses into fresh catastrophe.
