Overview

Ulldart is a complete nine-book German epic fantasy sequence by Markus Heitz, set on the continent of the same name. It comprises two linked arcs: the six-book "Die Dunkle Zeit" ("The Dark Times"), published 2004-2005, and its direct three-book continuation, "Zeit des Neuen" ("Age of the New"), published 2005-2007. The novels follow a widening conflict across Ulldart's kingdoms and peoples as dark magic and hostile forces threaten to overrun the continent, told through a large ensemble cast rather than a single protagonist, in a grim, war-heavy tone typical of Heitz's early work. Heitz, a German author also known in this canon for the separate Dwarves series, wrote Ulldart as an entirely different setting and cast, with no shared characters or geography between the two. The sequence remains untranslated into English in full, and has not seen a major screen adaptation, unlike some of the author's other work.
