Overview
The Halfblood Chronicles, co-written by Mercedes Lackey and Andre Norton, is set in an alternate-history world where an elven aristocracy rules over enslaved humans, watched over by shapeshifting dragons; the story centers first on Shana, a prophesied halfblood who sparks a revolution, and later on Kyrtian, an elvenlord seeking the truth behind his own people's origins and the Great Portal through which the elves entered this world. Andre Norton and Mercedes Lackey published the trilogy's three novels over eleven years: The Elvenbane (1991), Elvenblood (1995), and Elvenborn (2002); a fourth, unfinished manuscript left behind at Norton's death was later completed by Lackey and Ben Ohlander. Reviewers were divided on the first volumes, with some finding the characterization thin while others called The Elvenbane one of its season's liveliest fantasy epics. Surfaced and confirmed as a universe wholly separate from Lackey's Valdemar during the Valdemar research pass (Block 6).
