Overview
The Heartlight Saga is a trilogy by T. A. Barron about Kate Gordon, a curious girl who is twelve in the first book. Heartlight (1990) sends her to a distant galaxy to save her physicist grandfather. In The Ancient One (1992) she travels five hundred years back in time from an Oregon redwood grove, and in The Merlin Effect (1994) she is pulled into an undersea world while searching for a sunken galleon and a legendary horn tied to Merlin. The books share a heroine and a theme of science and magic as partners, but the author's site lists the saga separately from his Merlin Saga. The three were later gathered in a combined edition.
