Overview

Lives of the Mayfair Witches follows generations of the wealthy Mayfair family and Lasher, the ancestral spirit summoned centuries earlier by a Scottish witch who manipulates the family's rise to power while pursuing his own goal of achieving human form, in a family-saga trilogy by Anne Rice, already in this canon for The Vampire Chronicles. The Witching Hour (1990), Lasher (1993), and Taltos (1994), published by Knopf, form the self-contained original trilogy; each debuted at number two on the New York Times bestseller list, and the family later crosses over into three Vampire Chronicles novels published between 2000 and 2003. AMC adapted the trilogy as the television series Mayfair Witches, which premiered in January 2023 with Alexandra Daddario as neurosurgeon Rowan Mayfair, the family heir who becomes Lasher's chief target.

Rule: Core Canon = the original trilogy (The Witching Hour, Lasher, Taltos, 1990-1994). Three later novels (Merrick, Blackwood Farm, Blood Canticle) cross this family over into The Vampire Chronicles and are already catalogued under that universe, not duplicated here.
