Overview
The Dreamers is a four-book tetralogy by David and Leigh Eddings, published between 2003 and 2006 as The Elder Gods, The Treasured One, Crystal Gorge, and The Younger Gods, and the final work the couple completed together. It centers on the threatened land of Dhrall, where two rival, near-omnipotent pantheons, the Elder Gods and the Younger Gods, each choose a mortal Dreamer, a child capable of perceiving and channeling the gods' will through prophetic dreams, to help defend the land against an invasion by the malevolent god Klael and his monstrous forces. Human, Dreader, Malavi, and other peoples of Dhrall are drawn into the gods' war as auxiliaries and interpreters of the Dreamers' visions, with the tetralogy's plot largely structured around each successive invasion and the strategy assembled to meet it. The series returns to the mentor-and-young-hero structure and comic supporting-cast dynamics familiar from the Eddings' earlier Belgariad and Malloreon sequences, applied here to an entirely new world and pantheon.
