Madalena Nogueira dos Santos (born May 1987) is a Portuguese writer and lawyer from Maia, near Porto. She discovered writing at about twelve, publishing early work through the Jornal Comércio do Porto, and at fifteen abandoned a long manuscript of magic and imaginary beings for the idea that became her saga: the Lands of Corza, a fictional set of kingdoms modelled on central and southern Europe, told without magic or supernatural races across four eras. O Décimo Terceiro Poder (2006), written at sixteen and sent to Gailivro only for a professional opinion, was accepted within three months; A Coroa de Sangue (2007), As Tribos do Sul (2009) and Os Doze Reinos (2010) followed, the last entering FNAC's fantasy bestseller list on publication. She graduated in law at the University of Porto and took a master's degree in business law at the Catholic University of Porto, practises as a lawyer, founded a library in Nogueira da Maia, sat on literary-competition juries, was named Portuguese fantasy author of the year in the 2010 My Imaginarium Awards, co-organised the Conversas Imaginárias festival, and from 2018 to 2020 was editorial coordinator of Editorial Divergência, a small press devoted to Portuguese speculative fiction. Her opera libretto La Meccanica del Colore, with music by Nuno Costa, was staged at the Venice Biennale in 2019.
