Synopsis
In the eleventh novel of the main Nightside sequence, private eye John Taylor, whose supernatural gift lets him find almost anything, finds himself on the receiving end for once when the legendary sword Excalibur seeks him out instead. Reluctant to have anything to do with so storied and dangerous an artifact, Taylor nonetheless sets out to investigate exactly where the sword came from and why it has chosen him in particular to wield it. The inquiry takes him beyond his usual territory in the hidden Nightside district and out into London Proper, the ordinary city above, a place Taylor finds far more unsettling and unpredictable to navigate than the supernatural underworld he normally calls home.

- Series: The Nightside main sequence core; position 11 of 12 in the series' recorded order
- Author: Simon R. Green
Notes
- From the series record (The Nightside main sequence): No further main-sequence novel has been found published since The Bride Wore Black Leather (2012); a short-story collection, Tales from the Nightside (2015), exists in the same setting but is not catalogued in this admission. No confirmed major-award nomination was found for this series after a genuine search; this is an honest "none found," not an unresolved lead.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series The Nightside main sequence: position 11 of 12: previous The Good, the Bad, and the Uncanny (2010) · next The Bride Wore Black Leather (2012)
- Internal chronology, within The Nightside / Secret Histories: position 21 of 24: previous Dr. DOA (2016) · next Moonbreaker (2017)
