Synopsis

In the tenth novel of the main Nightside sequence, private investigator John Taylor accepts what looks like a routine assignment: escorting a visiting elf safely across the Nightside, the hidden and dangerous district at the heart of London. The job becomes considerably more complicated when Walker, the powerful and now visibly dying Voice of the Authorities who effectively govern the Nightside, insists on inserting himself into the affair. Walker's motives go well beyond simple oversight, as he has set his sights on making Taylor his chosen successor, a prospect Taylor finds deeply unwelcome given everything he knows about the burdens and compromises that come with wielding that kind of authority over the district.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Nightside main sequence): No further main-sequence novel has been found published since The Bride Wore Black Leather (2012); a short-story collection, Tales from the Nightside (2015), exists in the same setting but is not catalogued in this admission. No confirmed major-award nomination was found for this series after a genuine search; this is an honest "none found," not an unresolved lead.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
