Overview
Age of the Five is a self-contained epic-fantasy trilogy by Trudi Canavan, published 2005-2006 and set in the separate world of Northern Ithania, where the god-sanctioned Circle of priests wages war on the last remaining followers of the old, pagan gods. Priestess of the White (2005), Last of the Wilds (2006), and Voice of the Gods (2006) follow a widening cast, including a priestess drawn into doubt about her own order and a young man swept up among the hunted followers of the old gods, as the conflict between the two faiths escalates toward open war. The trilogy marked Canavan's move beyond the Kyralia setting that made her name, trading that world's guild-based magic system for one built directly around competing pantheons and religious persecution. It is a genuinely distinct setting from Kyralia, with no shared characters, geography, or in-story connection to the author's Black Magician books.
