Overview
C.S. Friedman's science-fantasy trilogy (DAW Books, 1991-1995), set a millennium after Earth's colonization of the planet Erna, where a reality-warping force called the fae reshapes human dreams and fears into physical monsters. Follows the uneasy alliance between the priest Damien Vryce and the ageless, morally ambiguous Gerald Tarrant as they journey from the more technologically developed Western lands to the Eastern Continent to confront corruption within the Church of Human Unification, uncovering a conspiracy in which the Church's ruling Matria are secretly members of the rival rakh species and an immortal, fae-empowered prince works to corrupt the institution from within.
