Overview
A completed six-novel Russian urban fantasy series (1998-2014) by Sergei Lukyanenko, following the Night Watch and Day Watch, supernatural agents of Light and Dark bound by an uneasy centuries-old truce called the Grand Treaty, as they police each other's use of magic in modern Moscow. Beneath the ordinary city lies the Twilight, a magical realm accessible only to "Others," the supernatural humans on both sides of the truce, and the novels follow morally complex agents of both factions through situations where neither side is portrayed as wholly virtuous. The first novel was adapted into the 2004 Russian blockbuster film Night Watch, followed by a 2006 sequel, Day Watch, adapting material from the second and third books; a 2005 video game was also released. The film adaptations, while retaining the core characters and events, altered several significant elements of the source novels.
