Overview

Sara Douglass's historical fantasy trilogy (Voyager, 2000-2002), written by a lecturer in medieval history, is an alternate fourteenth century in which the Hundred Years' War, the Black Death and the Peasants' Revolt are moves in the war between the angels of Heaven and the demons who have lived among men for centuries in human form. Thomas Neville, a nobleman turned Dominican friar, is chosen by the archangel Michael to destroy the demons before the Last Days, and through The Nameless Day, The Wounded Hawk and The Crippled Angel he learns that neither side is what he was taught, and that his own soul is the battleground. A separate world from Douglass's Axis Trilogy.
