Peter Newman was born and raised in and around London, England. He attended the Central School of Speech and Drama, where he studied drama and education, and worked as a secondary school drama teacher before transitioning to a full-time writing career beginning in 2015. Newman is best known for his Vagrant fantasy series, an unusual post-apocalyptic epic told partly through the perspective of a mute protagonist, beginning with The Vagrant and continuing through The Malice and The Seven. He later expanded his body of work with The Deathless, The Ruthless, and The Boundless, along with the related titles The Vagrant and the City and The Hammer and the Goat, building a distinctive body of dark, atmospheric secondary-world fantasy noted for its unconventional narrative techniques and visceral imagery. Beyond his novels, Newman is a co-writer of the podcast Tea and Jeopardy, a genre-fiction interview show blended with comedic sketches, which won a Hugo Award in 2017. His debut novel, The Vagrant, won the Morningstar Award for Best Debut Novel at the David Gemmell Awards in 2016, recognizing outstanding new voices in fantasy fiction. Newman's work is frequently praised for its inventive worldbuilding and willingness to experiment with structure and perspective within traditional epic fantasy frameworks.
