William King, born Bill King on December 7, 1959, in Stranraer, Scotland, is a Scottish writer of science fiction and fantasy. He worked as a designer for Games Workshop before relocating to the Czech Republic, where the company's game universes, which he had helped shape professionally, also became the setting for much of his fiction; he now resides in Prague with his family. King is best known for creating the characters Gotrek and Felix, who debuted in Trollslayer (1999), the first novel published under Games Workshop's Black Library imprint, launching a series that ran to seven books between 1999 and 2003 and became one of the imprint's flagship properties. He later wrote the Tyrion and Teclis trilogy (2011-2013) and the Macharian Crusade trilogy (2012-2014), as well as novels featuring the Space Wolves character Ragnar Blackmane within the Warhammer 40,000 setting. Beyond Games Workshop's fiction, King contributed to other licensed universes, most recently writing Illidan, a World of Warcraft tie-in novel published by Blizzard Entertainment in March 2016.
