Overview

Anna Brzezińska's Saga o zbóju Twardokęsku is a Polish fantasy series set in the Lands of the Inner Sea, a world of quarrelling princes, rebels, priests and gods. Its hero is Twardokęsek, a weary bandit who wants to retire but is repeatedly drawn into the intrigues of nobles and deities. Other key figures include the bandit Szarka and a jasmine witch. The saga draws on picaresque literature and grows more psychological as it goes on. It began with Zbójecki gościniec in 1999 (revised and expanded as Plewy na wietrze in 2006) and continued with Żmijowa harfa (2000) and the two-volume Letni deszcz, Kielich (2004) and Sztylet (2009). The author's Wilżyńska Dolina story collections are set in the same world but are not novels.
