Ryo Mizuno (born 13 July 1963) is a Japanese author and game designer, known mainly for creating Record of Lodoss War. He began as a game master, and the Lodoss world of Forcelia started as a rules-free setting for tabletop role-playing sessions that Group SNE serialized as replays in the magazine Comptiq from 1986. When the replays proved popular, he turned the story into novels, published by Kadokawa Shoten from 1988; the franchise has sold over ten million copies in Japan. He has also created or co-created Sword World RPG, Legend of Crystania, Rune Soldier, Starship Operators and Record of Grancrest War, served as general supervisor of Galaxy Angel, and supplied the idea for the TV series Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight. He has contributed text to manga adaptations of his work. His 2019 novel The Crown of the Covenant continued the Lodoss story.
