Overview
Blood Books is a completed five-book urban-fantasy sequence by Tanya Huff, a new author to this canon. A former Toronto police detective turned private investigator, Vicki Nelson, partners with a centuries-old vampire to solve supernatural crimes across the city. The series -- Blood Price (1991), Blood Trail (1992), Blood Lines (1993), Blood Pact (1993), and Blood Debt (1997) -- helped establish the now-common urban-fantasy pairing of a hard-boiled human investigator and a vampire partner well before the subgenre's mainstream boom of the 2000s. Huff builds the cases around Toronto-specific settings and supernatural threats ranging from mummies to werewolves, keeping Vicki's police background central to how she investigates rather than treating her simply as a romantic lead. The series was later adapted into the Canadian television series Blood Ties, broadening its audience beyond the original novels.
