Karen Chance is an American novelist who grew up in Orlando, Florida. She has lived in France, Great Britain, Hong Kong and New Orleans, where she taught history, and she holds a doctorate in the subject. She has lived in Florida again in recent years and has been a full-time author since 2008, after starting to write during a period of chronic illness. Her first novel, Touch the Dark, appeared in 2006 and introduced Cassie Palmer; her Dorina Basarab series followed in 2008, and the two series share one universe. By her own count she has written more than twenty novels, plus novellas and short stories, and her books have appeared on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists.
